MASVINGO — Masvingo United FC supporters have expressed frustration over the alleged failure to fully honour a landmark US$150,000 sponsorship package announced earlier this year under the Presidential Fund.

The package was unveiled at a high-profile handover ceremony attended by Minister of State for National Security, Lovemore Matuke, and club patron Hon. Ezra Chadzamira. At the event, club treasurer Edwin Rafemoyo reportedly received an initial US$35,000.

Officials also promised two service vehicles, a team bus, and the remaining balance to be officially presented on 25 March in Harare by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Supporters say they have not seen any further disbursements beyond the initial payment.

“We only heard through rumours that a government delegation handed over US$35,000. Those in the know told us the bus and vehicles were coming, and the balance would be given by the President in March, but we have not seen anything,” said one staunch supporter.

Another fan urged calm, expressing faith that promises would be fulfilled.

“We should just wait. The promise will be delivered. No need to panic. I know there were structural changes in our club, and I know our listening President and the officials involved will deliver. This thing of hiring kombis for away games will come to an end,” he said.

Some fans say the delay has affected preparations, with several experienced players leaving for other clubs.

“We expected the money to be used for assembling a strong squad, but most experienced players have left us and have been signed elsewhere.

That is why we are losing matches week in, week out,” said a visibly frustrated supporter.

Masvingo United spokesperson Angeline Mikiri said the bus and service vehicles are on their way from China and that the club has received assurances they will be delivered soon and personally handed over by the President.

“The financial package is being disbursed at US$3,000 every week through Commissioner Kondongwe, our club President, to control abuse of available resources,” Mikiri said.

“We have been informed that the bus and vehicles have already been shipped from China, and we will receive them from President Mnangagwa soon.”

The club is expected to provide fans with a full update on the sponsorship once the remaining assets are still to be delivered.
