Masvingo- Masvingo-based ladies volleyball team Southern Aces Club has made Masvingo proud following a fine unbeaten run in the Zimbabwe national Volleyball Premier League so far.

The high-riding queens are currently sitting on the 3rd position in the league, trailing league leaders Ravenglaw and second-placed Black Mambas.

The ladies’ team’s success is not only national, as they have broken regional boundaries and are headed for Namibia where they are scheduled to participate in the Zone VI club championship tournament.

The ambitious volleyball side is set to travel to Swakopmund, Namibia, from December 12 to 25 this year for an invitational tournament.

Southern Aces will get regional exposure through locking horns with clubs from Zambia, Malawi, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Botswana, South Africa and hosts Namibia.

Team Manager Glen Tavarwisa said the team is currently faring well in the national league, maintaining a fine unbeaten record.

The Tavarwisa-coached side boasts of a club hierarchy led by exco club chairperson Dr Richard Makoni, Secretary General, Frank Shuro, Treasurer, Tsungai Mhungu, Team manager Glenn Tavarwisa and Welfare manager Joane Belinda Gwenero.

Team Manager and coach Tavarwisa said the team’s amazing record is a result of hard work and profound dedication to the game.

“It feels amazing to have an unbeaten run so far. It’s a result of the hard work, discipline, and commitment that every player and member of the team has put in. We know the journey is not over, so we remain focused and humble.

Qualifying to go to Namibia and compete against some of the best teams from Southern Africa is a great honour.

“We are excited by the opportunity to represent Zimbabwe, gain valuable experience, and compete at the highest level. We will give our best and make our supporters proud,” said Tavarwisa.

Local coaches Tavarwisa, Anesu Tavarwisa and Gift Machisa have led from the front as the team conducts its training sessions at Masvingo Polytechnic College.

Southern Aces are expected to continue with their winning form in upcoming domestic fixtures to be fulfilled against Black Mambas and Black Rhinos at Hillside Teachers College, Bulawayo, on the 25th and 26th of July 2026.

They will host other Premier League games on the 27th and 28th of September 2026, where they will face Harare City and Ravenclaw.

Volleyball stakeholders have praised the team for its success in the league and hailed its invitation to a regional tournament.

“We are very happy that a local ladies’ volleyball team is doing well in the elite premier league. This is a testament to the vast talent Masvingo holds, and we are calling upon our people to keep supporting the team. Invitation for a regional tournament shows that standards of sport are rising in Masvingo,” said a stakeholder.

Local volleyball fans are highly tipping some talented youthful stars like the Captain Anesu Nyoni for a call-up for national duty in the Zimbabwe senior women’s volleyball team, the Lady Eagles.

Recently, the Lady Eagles secured the silver medal at the CAVB Zone VI LA28 Olympic Qualifiers held at the Sunrise Sports Club in Belvedere, Harare.

They had a strong, undefeated round-robin run but ultimately fell to Zambia in the regional championship final.
