Bikita-Concerned former students and parents at Mukore High School in Bikita have petitioned the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Masvingo Provincial Education Director (PED), Shylet Mhike over a litany of malpractices at the learning institution including misappropriation of funds.
The petition was lodged pursuant to Section 81 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe (Amendment 20) which specifically addresses the rights of children, stating that every child has the right to education, and the Education Amendment Act [Chapter 25:04],

Former students and parents submitted the petition last week and drew the PED’s attention to the corporate governance collapse at Mukore High School placing the academic future of its students at risk,
The pervasive pattern of gross financial misuse, corruption, including the alleged misappropriation of revenue from the tuck-shop and tracksuit sales, through use of inflated quotations for capital projects and the egregious misuse of the school vehicle for unauthorized personal errands by the School head, Svikai Tengerayi and his administration.
Petitioners said the institution is marred by punitive administrative practices that have caused a massive teacher exodus, leaving critical examination classes without qualified instructors which confirms a fundamental failure to prioritize educational delivery.
“We pray that the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in Zimbabwe exercises its constitutional mandate to exercise its oversight role and enquire into whether the School Head at Mukore High School in Bikita is discharging his mandate effectively to the best interests of the pupils and
order an immediate suspension of the school leadership and start a forensic audit of the school’s book of accounts in order to secure the school’s assets, prevent further misconduct, and restore educational integrity before the damage becomes irreversible” said the petitioners.
The concerned parents and school alumni said they hope the authorities will take swift action to address the rot bedeviling the school.
Efforts to get a comment from Mhike and Tengerayi were fruitless as they were not reachable.
