Government Declares State Of Disaster Following Fatal Chiredzi Bus-Train Collision

 Harare- The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works has declared the tragic bus-train collision in Chiredzi a State of Disaster, paving the way for a coordinated government response to assist victims and their families.

The accident, which occurred earlier this week, claimed nine lives and left 59 people injured.

 In an official press briefing, the Ministry confirmed that Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Daniel Garwe, has activated State-assisted funerals for all nine deceased persons.

According to the Ministry, the funeral arrangements are being conducted in collaboration with the Insurance Council of Zimbabwe and the bus owner to ensure dignified burials for the victims.

Nyaradzo Funeral Services has been engaged to provide burial services, while bereaved families are receiving psycho-social support to help them cope with the emotional impact of the tragedy.

Additionally, the Government has made arrangements to cover the medical bills of the 59 injured individuals currently receiving treatment at various health institutions.

This measure is intended to ease the financial burden on victims and their families during this difficult period.

“The Ministry extends its deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured,” the statement read.

“Government remains committed to ensuring that all affected individuals and families receive the necessary assistance and support.”

The declaration of a State of Disaster allows for streamlined resource mobilization and inter-agency coordination to address the aftermath of the collision.
