MWENEZI — The Auditor General has praised Mwenezi Rural District Council (MRDC) for making headway in resolving issues flagged in its 2024 audit report.
Tabled before Parliament by Auditor General Vimbai Chikwenhere, om 26 June 2026, the 2025 audit report noted a positive trajectory towards institutional transparency and accountability.
Out of 20 initial audit findings, the council successfully resolved 10, with an additional item partially addressed.
Key milestones achieved include a comprehensive revaluation of property and equipment.
Furthermore, the council has corrected its approach to handling payables and transitioned its revenue recognition to an accrual basis.
MRDC has successfully addressed other critical areas, including beer levy revenues, internal policies, inventory management, business licenses, accounting for salary arrears, and donations.
MRDC welcomed the milestone, emphasizing that the council remains fully dedicated to resolving the remaining nine findings.
The Local Authority is already aggressively tackling outstanding items, including expected credit losses, receivable valuations, motor vehicle allocations, and sewer and water reticulation.
“We are happy that our efforts have been acknowledged.”
The focus is now on clearing the outstanding issues to achieve a clean audit and concentrate on transforming the lives of our residents through enhanced, sustainable service delivery.”
Local community members have also voiced strong support for the council’s proactive measures.
“We are happy with the report outcomes that our council managed to address some of the issues flagged in the prior audit report to us. This means that they are dedicated and have shown effort to do things the right way, said Felani Chitanga of Rutenga growth point.
Other residents urged the local authority to focus their attention on the outstanding issues so that they turn their focus on enhancing excellent service delivery and development of the district.
“Now that there has been progress in addressing grey areas in the governance and running of the local institution, our leaders should now deal with the remaining issues and focus on development projects that transform the lives of the vulnerable communities,” Said Hlekani Maluleke.
