Masvingo- Two brothers from Nyajena have dragged President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his government before the High Court, seeking an interdict to stop the installation of the recently appointed Chief Nyajena, Last Dzivakwe, arguing that he is not the rightful person selected by their clan according to their traditional procedures.
Isaac and Haruzivi Jerera, the first and second applicants respectively, will have their urgent case heard at the High Court of Harare on Monday, 18 May, before Justice Neville Wamambo.

President Mnangagwa is the first respondent, while Minister of Local Government, Daniel Garwe, is the second respondent. Permanent Secretary for the Local Government Ministry is the 3rd respondent, followed by Last Dzivakwe, the disputed Chief, as the fourth respondent.
According to a letter penned by Masvingo Acting District Development Coordinator Joyce Chikugu, Dzivakwe was appointed substantive Chief Nyajena by President Mnangagwa on 5 May 2026, much to the chagrin of the Nyajena clan, who argue that he was not the selected heir to the throne.
Close sources allege that the newly appointed Chief used unscrupulous means to dribble past the rightful heir, who is alleged to be very old, and convinced the authorities that he was the selected candidate by the Nyajena clan.
“There is indeed a fierce dispute for the Nyajena Chieftainship, and it has since spilled before the High Court. The Jerera brothers are saying Dzivakwe is not the rightful Chief; he used unscrupulous means to deceive the authorities, hence he should be stripped to pave the way for the rightful person according to the Nyajena customs,” said an insider who preferred anonymity.
Villagers said Dzivakwe has since started preparations for his installation ceremony and ordered village heads in all his wards to donate a cow, a goat, chickens, and money per ward for the ceremony.
