An Easter Reflection: Worship Without Christ is Incomplete

Waking up early this morning, my heart was full of reflections on the death and resurrection of Christ. Here is what was on my mind:

Worship is not balanced if we don’t talk about Jesus Christ and integrate Him into the entire equation of life. The tragic part of the story is that He came to His own, but they did not receive Him.

“He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not.” — John 1:10-11 (KJV)

Though every event surrounding His life proved He was no “ordinary man,” many denied Him then—and many still deny Him today.

The miracles, signs, and wonders He performed should have been proof enough, yet they were not sufficient to convince some. The deep compassion He showed should have been evidence enough, yet it seemed inadequate to those who refused to see that He was God manifest in a human body.

For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. Colossians 2:9 (KJV)

Jesus never thought it “robbery” to be equal with God. Instead, He carried a spirit of profound humility—a spirit we are encouraged to pursue today.

> Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: – Philippians 2:6 (KJV)

In an act of mockery, the Jews placed an inscription over Him that read, “THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.” They didn’t realize they were labeling the King of the entire universe (Matthew 27:37).

Though many felt His power, they continued to resist. However, at the cross, when He gave up His spirit, the earth quaked, utter darkness covered the land, and the veil in the temple was torn in two. Even the bystanders were forced to conclude: *“Truly this was the Son of God.”* Indeed, He was the King, even upon the cross (Matthew 27:50-54).

> After His death, Joseph of Arimathea requested the body of Jesus to give Him a decent burial. Three days later, the miraculous continued: angels rolled away the stone, and Jesus Christ the King was raised from the dead in power! Matthew 27:57-60

In everything we do, may we never forget that we serve a King—Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God—whose life was marked by majesty, from His triumphal entry to His sacrificial death and glorious resurrection?

Worship can never be adequate without Christ. He is the center that holds it all together.

Blessed Easter to you all!
