Mucheke- In a splendid gesture to the development of young talent, a former Masvingo United utility player now based in Poland Progress Musepa has donated a full kit to Masvingo City Soccer Academy.

The shot in the arm is part of giving back to the community while developing grassroots football in Masvingo through motivating young talent in academies.

Born and bred in Mkwasine, Musepa attended Mashoko High and proceeded to Gokomere for his Advanced Level studies.

During his trailblazing career, Musepa first played for Gutu Leopards a developmental Division One side for Masvingo United which was in the Premier Soccer League in the early 2000s.

Musepa rubbed shoulders with several legends, the likes of Isaac Chapura, Ovidy Karuru and Martin Vengesai among others.

He was later promoted into Masvingo United first team and later moved to Poland.

Masvingo City Soccer Academy coach and Musepa’s former team mate at Una Una, Billard Bhomba Muchenje hailed Musepa for remembering his roots.

“As Masvingo City Academy coach I am happy that we received shorts, socks and jerseys while some of our players got soccer boots. This donation has greatly improved our work as an academy. Musepa has greatly remembered where he came from. Thumps up to him for helping us in our quest to improve these kids academically and sports wise “said Muchenje.

Muchenje added that the academy is key in fighting drugs and substance abuse among youths.

“Our academy is also helping in fighting the surge in drug abuse. If parents enroll their kids in our academy this keeps them occupied and away from indulging in drug abuse as we combine football with education” added Muchenje.

Veteran football administrator and Masvingo United FC CEO, Advocate Phillip Shumba said they are elated to receive such a worthy donation from Progress Musepa.

“Musepa is an all-time weather friend for Masvingo City Academy having previously made several donations to the academy. The future of football in the country lies in grassroots development. These are the future stars of tomorrow. Musepa is a proud product of junior development having benefitted from a similar academy during his early soccer career days in Chiredzi. He has therefore not abandoned his roots. We appreciate and value the timely donation of an immaculate soccer kit.” said Shumba.

Shumba also took time to thank other benefactors supporting the academy.

” Besides Musepa there are other benefactors of the academy who deserve special mention including Jacob Mbudzi now based in South Sudan, Peter Teburu based in South Africa, Ovidy Karuru based in South Africa, Isaac Chapura based in the UK, Maxwell Chambara based in the USA, Masvingo based Learnmore Kadhoro and many others who support the team. For football to do well in the province and the country at large we call upon more former Masvingo United players to invest in youth development. Special mention goes to fellow academy enthusiasts like George Charumbira; Bigboy Masocha and Mr Muresherwa who are doing very well at Masvingo Christian College with yet another thriving academy which equally deserves support from individuals and corporate sponsors” said Shumba.
