Mwenezi- Mwenezi Rural District Council has budgeted approximately USD 265,000 for road rehabilitation in 2026 in a move that is set to transform the road infrastructure and improve the transportation of goods and the movement of residents.

The program will focus on rehabilitating the Rutenga and Neshuro access roads, along with other primary and secondary roads across different wards, totaling a stretch of 350 kilometers.

Mwenezi RDC Chief Executive Officer, Albert Ndhlovu Chivanga, said key components of the plan include street lighting for a 1-kilometer section of the Rutenga access roads to improve visibility and safety, as well as drainage lining to enhance stormwater management and reduce flooding risks in affected areas.

“In addition, our council is in the process of acquiring a new grader engine to revive the council’s second grader, which has been out of service for more than two years, as part of broader efforts to improve road rehabilitation capacity,” he said.

The Local authority is urging residents to pay their rates and dues promptly to enable the council to effectively execute the required services.

Chivanga said timely funding from residents is essential to delivering the planned infrastructure upgrades and maintaining district roads to standard.

The council added that the 2026 program aims to improve transportation reliability, pedestrian safety, and drainage, contributing to local economic activity and the overall quality of life for rate payers
