Harare- The Zimbabwe Solidarity Movement has approached the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade to seek permission to march to the United States of America Embassy in Zimbabwe to submit a petition containing discontent over the kidnapping of the Venezuelan President, Nicholas Maduro by the Donald Trump led government.
The Movement has since written to formally notify the Ministry of their intention to hold a peaceful procession on 03 February 2026 to the United States Embassy in Harare, and hand in a petition in solidarity with the people of Venezuela.

“This notice is submitted following correspondence from the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Harare Suburban District, and requesting engagement with your Ministry prior to the procession,” read part of the letter.
The notice was done after their initial notification to the Zimbabwe republic police was diplomatically declined by the Harare Suburban Officer Commanding Police, Superintendent, and C Mugurameno.
“I acknowledge receipt of your notice of intention to hold a peaceful procession in solidarity with the people of Venezuela and hand in a petition at the US Embassy in Mlabereign Harare on 3 February 2026 from 1015 hours to 1215 hours. You are hereby requested to first seek permission from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and furnish this office with response,” wrote Sup Magurameno responding to the movement.
In the letter wrote by the movement to the Ministry, The procession will be peaceful, lawful, and conducted in compliance with the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act [Chapter 11:23].
“We kindly request the Ministry’s response for onward submission to the Zimbabwe Republic Police,” said Masaraure in the letter.
Masaraure said the anti Maduro kidnapping march in show of solidarity to the Venezuelan people was anchored on the violations of international laws that forbids the invasion of sovereign countries and subsequent kidnapping and throwing away of elected leaders by foreign countries.
The movement said the action by the US is uncalled for as it smacks of imperialism against autonomous nations in the 21st century.
However some critics and a large section of the Venezuelan people are in solidarity with the American action and celebrated the kidnaping of Maduro whom they accuse of being a Dictator who stifled democracy and stole elections.
Maduro also stand accused of presiding over a nation with the highest inflation record and collapsed economy they has led to the suffering of millions of citizens.
Millions of the country citizens have reportedly left the country fleeing oppression and hunger. Maduro is also accused of ruthless crushing dissent through the arresting and imprisoning opposition leaders, including the Nobel Peace award winner, Maria Corina Machado.
Machado, the English-speaking daughter of a wealthy steel magnate, enjoys widespread popular support in Venezuela, where she is nicknamed the “Iron Lady”, but is loathed by the regime’s power brokers.
Machado was banned from running in the 2024 election against Maduro. A parallel vote count based on independently verified voting tally receipts showed that her stand-in, Edmund González, was the contest’s winner by a margin of two to one, rather than Maduro, who claimed victory. The US recognised González’s victory.
Maduro’s regime launched a crackdown on dissent following the polls. Machado went into hiding in Venezuela, while González fled to Spain. She escaped Venezuela with US support last month to collect her Nobel Prize in Oslo and has not returned since.
Efforts to get a comment from the Foreign Affairs, Minister Ambassador, Fredrick Shava, for government response to the request were fruitless by time of going to press.
