Masvingo — Masvingo residents and stakeholders were out in force to celebrate a milestone for their city as Mayor, Aleck Tabe was named the 1st runner-up best performing mayor in the country at the Presidential Performance Excellence in Service Delivery awards held in Harare recently.
The recognition, lauded as a testament to robust governance and commitment to citizens, has stirred pride across the Municipality

Residents, institutions, and local authorities joined the City of Masvingo for a jubilant show of support, pouring in congratulatory messages for the mayor.
Community members praised the leadership and ongoing efforts to improve public services, while councils and partner institutions underscored the importance of strong collaboration in delivering tangible results for residents.
“I am incredibly proud of what Mayor Tabe has achieved for Masvingo. This award puts our city on the map and motivates us to push even harder for better services.” Said Tinashe Mangava a Mucheke resident.
As Masvingo embraces the momentum from this national acknowledgment, all eyes will be on the city’s continued drive to elevate public services and improve quality of life for its residents.
In a statement, City of Masvingo sent their heartfelt congratulations to their team leader.

Masvingo United Residents and Rate Payers Alliance, expressed profound congratulations to the Mayor for scooping the prestigious award.
“The Masvingo United Residents and Ratepayers Alliance (MURRA) Board, Secretariat, and Members extend their warmest congratulations to the Mayor of the City of Masvingo, Mr. Alec Tabe, on his outstanding achievement as the 1st Runner-Up in the President’s Performance Excellence Awards under the Service Delivery category for Mayors/Council Chairpersons.
This well-deserved recognition is a testament to your dedication, leadership, and commitment to improving service delivery for the residents of Masvingo. It reflects the positive strides being made towards responsive, accountable, and citizen-centered local governance,” MURRA said.

Women In Governance and Peace Building (WIGP) also relayed their warm congratulations and joined other institution in celebrating the Mayor achievement saying the gesture was recognition of his hard work and commitment to serving the community.

Mayor Tabe said he was humbled by the recognition as well as the messages coming from residents and stakeholders attributing the achievement to team works and support from all stakeholders.

This 1st Runner-Up award in the category of Mayors/Council Chairpersons for Urban Local Authorities in Performance Excellence in Service Delivery is not mine alone—it belongs to all of us. It reflects our collective effort, unity of purpose, and shared vision to improve the quality of life for our residents,” said Mayor Tabe.
