Robbery Alert Ahead of Festive Season: Police

Masvingo— The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Masvingo Province has issued a public alert advising residents to remain vigilantly alert as robbery incidents rise in the build-up to the festive season.

 In a notice, police warned that perpetrators commonly use knives, firearms, or imitation firearms to target individuals carrying cash, mobile phones, and other valuables.

 The law enforcement arm outlined practical steps that residents can take to safeguard themselves and their property.

“Key recommendations include avoiding walking alone at night and sticking to well-lit routes; keeping cash, jewelry, and mobile phones concealed and out of sight, banking cash or keeping it in secure, overnight facilities as well as varying banking times and routes to minimize predictability, “ ZRP said

For travelers ZRP urged travelers to choose licensed transport, whether passenger service vehicles, registered taxis, or reputable ride-sharing services that provide driver details and vehicle registration.

The notice also encourages community involvement, urging residents to participate in local Neighbourhood Watch Programmes and to share safety information through community Whats App groups.

 Additional precautions ZRP said “include minimizing the display of financial status, using car alarms or locks on bags and homes, and employing target-hardening measures such as screen doors, burglar bars, and reinforced keyholes.”

Police officials advocated for smart security installations, including CCTV cameras and sensor systems, on residential homes and business properties

The also cautioned the public against resisting when faced with firearms or other dangerous weapons.

“Residents are urged to report any suspicious activity or wanted individuals to the nearest ZRP station’s the police reinforces its commitment to public safety, especially during the festive period,”
