Masvingo- The Queen of swagger, Pokello Nare, caused a stir at San Siro sports bar and grill last weekend when she graced the inaugural champagne marketing function and officially launched her wine brand named after her in Masvingo.
Revelers travelled from as far as Chiredzi, Zaka, Ngundu and Gutu just to get a glimpse of the evergreen trendsetter who has taken the nation by storm.
The Champagne event popularly known in the street lingo as Shampopo festivity was the first of its kind in Masvingo.
Euphoria had gripped the city for long and revelers jostled to take selfies or to just get a glimpse of the vivacious national and regional socialite Pokello.
Elegance and class filled the VIP lounge as Pokello rocking black denims with a touch of bright red flowers entered in style accompanied by her entourage from Harare which included other socialites like Ritz Macleish, Dj Towers and popular sports fan Chemhofela.
A socialite from Chiredzi who identified herself as Sister Beatrice said she travelled all the way to meet a lady she had only seen and admired on television and social media.
“I used to see Sis Pokello on television and follow her on social media. I said to myself I can’t miss the opportunity to meet her in Masvingo and I took loads of selfies which have set my social media pages ablaze” said Sis Beatrice.
Masvingo based socialites who refused to be named said their dreams have come true as they managed to mix and mingle with those who matter in society.
“What an event we popped shampompo all night. I managed to meet the mbingas and grab one or two selfies with the queen herself and I have never enjoyed night life like this before” said one of the socialites who preferred not to be named.
A male reveler who travelled from Zaka, Simbarashe Chipezeze, hailed San Siro proprietor, Taurai “Bucho” Mudzviti, for establishing a joint which has attracted national celebrities.
“Mukoma Bucho has done wonders I came all the way from Zaka to marvel at his work and taste the new brand of champagne and am always there to support any great work which emerges from our province. Celebrities are now attracted to Masvingo thanks to initiatives by our local businessman” said Chipezeze.
Revelers also said the shampompo function which lasted through the night should be held as an annual event maybe accompanied by a musical show in future.
Bucho described the event as a success and promised more future events featuring national icons.
“One bhawa rinopedza riri mughetto,” he summed it up.
