Gutu- Perseverance College, a private academic institution in Mpandawana, Gutu, is forecasting a year of academic fireworks and continued success for its 2026 ordinary level examination classes.

Comparing the institution’s 2024 to 2025 academic year reveals a striking contrast, as the institution’s pass rates continue to climb steadily.

Despite some students sitting for fewer subjects to supplement their grades, Director Onias Majoni confirmed that 72 candidates achieved five or more subject passes in the 2025 ZIMSEC ‘O’ Level results.

“There is a marked improvement between the 2024 and 2025 results, with the pass rate showing a clear upward trajectory. This success is attributed to an abundance of learning materials, modern computer labs, and high-speed internet for research, as well as a dedicated teaching staff willing to go the extra mile.

“If it weren’t for the fact that some of our candidates sit for fewer than five subjects, we would be in a position to guarantee a 100% pass rate,” said Majoni.

He also added that, the college achieved an impressive pass rate of over 50% across several key subjects.

In the core STEM and language areas, English Language recorded 66.6%, Mathematics reached 59.5%, Combined Science sat at 54.5%, and Accounts rounded out the list at 52%.

Most notably, the institution secured a 100% pass rate in Shona and other high marks were also recorded in Business Enterprise Studies (92%), Heritage (82.9%), History (79.3%), Commerce (76%), FRS (74%), and Geography (67.3%).

In a bid to make education accessible to all, the institution has established a satellite campus in Mushaviri and operates a specialized Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education in Mpandawana, with a focus on practical skills.

Majoni said the primary mission of the Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education is to empower school leavers with lifelong practical skills designed to provide them with a sustainable livelihood while actively combating drug abuse among the youth in local communities.

“Having recognized that some learners may be less academically inclined but are more practically gifted, the institution introduced the Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education.

“The aim of this faculty is to equip school leavers with employable, lifelong survival skills that facilitate a quick start to life after school. This helps to combat the dependency syndrome and the issue of drug abuse among school leavers in most communities,” he said.

Courses offered include Welding, Computers,Motor Mechanics, Retail Training, Bookkeeping, Marketing, Textile Technology and Design.
