Paidamoyo Derera, Shelton Bhonda Scoop Miss and Mr GZU Respectively

Mashava- Vivacious Paidamoyo Derera, an Economics and Finance student was crowned Miss Great Zimbabwe University after   trouncing 9 other contestants at a prestigious cat walk event held at the Institution’s Mashava campus recently.

Stunning beauties, Tanyaradzwa Mutumba and Naomi Manyawi scooped the First Runner Up and Second Runner Up positions respectively after out smarting 7 other gorgeous contestants.

The elegant winners walked away with lots of prices, hampers and awards from various sponsors including undisclosed cash from local business community and imperative stakeholders.

Addressing the guests after being crowned, an overwhelmed Mutumba said she was excited to win the coveted Miss GZU crown.

“I am thrilled to scoop this year crown, I have always dreamt of being a successful a model and today it’s like a dream and I will take the career further,”

Good-looking Shelton Bhonda a Financial engineering student walked away as Mr. GZU, while Eric Dzamwaraka was the First Runner Up and Denzel Mugoromi the Second Runner Up.

They were also pampered with assorted prizes and hampers for coming out tops. Only six males contested for the MR GZU cat walk.

Miss GZU people’s choice award went to Rumbidzai Nguruve while Mr GZU people’s choice award went to Eric Dzamwaraka.

 It was all pomp and fun fare at the Pageant held on October 10, as students and stakeholders were kept on their feet throughout the event from different entertainers.

The catwalk contest which ran under the theme “Unity in Diversity: Celebrating Brain Excellence, Cultural Diversity and Inclusivity” was graced by several high profile dignitaries.

Notable guests included representatives from the office of the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Ezra Chadzamira, Masvingo Mayor Masvingo Aleck Tabe, GZU Dean of Student Affairs Onias Simbo, Acting Registrar and Pageant Committee Patron Abel Mukozho, Masvingo Youth Ambassador for Persons with Disabilities Vimbai Chese and the University Alumni.

Guest of Honour, Mangwe Rural District Council Proportional Representation Councilor, Simphiwe Vuyelwa Mguni, said it was inspiring to witness such creativity, confidence and cultural pride among the contestants.

 “I extend my warmest congratulations to the newly crowned Mr & Miss Great Zimbabwe University 2025 and to all participants for embodying the spirit of unity, excellence and diversity that defines this great institution,” said Mguni.  

Mukozho expressed gratitude to organisers, students and guests who attended the inaugural event.

“This was the 1st edition of the beauty pageant and we hope to have another pageant next year. The University is supporting the event, and we greatly appreciate that. We thank the organizers of the event and in particular the GZU student affairs, Dean Mr Simbo, Director Neganda and we also thank the club executive members” said Mukozho.
