Masvingo— The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have confirmed the arrest of two men and the recovery of 28 cattle believed to have been stolen in and around Triangle area in Chiredzi district.
Elliot Hwende, 49, of Village 1 Crown Range, Triangle, and Promise Njanjure, 52, of Plot 35 Mungwezi, Chiredzi, were arrested for contravening section 114 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23, in connection with the cattle rustling incident that occurred at Village 1 Basi, Triangle.
If convicted the duo face up to 252 years behind bars as stock theft carry a mandatory 9 years imprisonment per count.
The investigation began on 30 December 2025, when a report was filed at around 0600 hours after Neverson Moyo, 62, of Village Basi, Triangle, discovered that ten cattle he had penned the day before had been stolen.
On 3 January 2026, police received a tip-off indicating that five cattle were being kept at Onisimo Chibwe’s homestead in Village Wasara, Chief Neromwe, and Chiredzi.
Chibwe reportedly told police investigators that the cattle had been brought by Neverson Moyo for safekeeping.
The following day, Neverson Moyo was arrested and implicated Promise Njanjure.
Police then proceeded to Njanjure’s homestead, where twenty-three cattle were found penned.
Njanjure allegedly could not account for the cattle and was subsequently arrested.
Neverson Moyo identified six of his own cattle among the recovered stock, while Joseph Mpofu, a resident of Village 6B Monyoroka, Triangle, identified three of his cattle among those stolen as well.
Police say a total of 28 cattle were recovered in connection with the case.
Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, confirmed the arrest and applauded the public’s cooperation in providing fruitful information which led to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the livestock

Inspector Dhewa also urged residents who have lost cattle in and around Triangle to report to the nearest police station.
He said Police will remain vigilant in investigating and detecting stock theft across the province.
