Mwenezi – The just-wrapped Mwenezi Rural District Council Full Council Meeting Number 11 of 2026 delivered a solid blueprint for progress across the district.
From near-completion of a flagship health facility to new schools, scholarships, and local services, the latest council session is a sign of a clear mission of bringing modern, accessible services closer to every resident and rate payer.

The Big One: Petronella Clinic.
In what officials call a “near-final countdown,” the Petronella Clinic is now 98% completion and ready for commissioning. The project, described as a major step toward bringing modern healthcare right to residents’ doorsteps, signals tangible progress in the district’s healthcare delivery.
Council officials stressed that the finish line is in sight and that the clinic’s commissioning will mark a new era of accessible medical care for the community.
Investing in Our Future
Education took center stage with two significant announcements. Council approved the establishment of Wilson and Ellen Secondary School in Rutenga, expanding secondary education opportunities for local learners.
In addition, a major private primary boarding school was green lighted for Chivai Village, signaling a robust push to diversify and strengthen educational options for families in the area.
Student Support
In a move to level the playing field for talented youths, the local authority announced a partnership with Zimbabwe Bio-Energy (ZBE) to fund tertiary education scholarships for disadvantaged students in the district.
The initiative aims to unlock higher education pathways and empower the district’s brightest minds to soar beyond barriers they may face.
Community & Convenience
Sustainable resources received a boost with a new partnership at Chisvine Dam, focusing on fish restocking to fund local development projects, including the Chavasikana classroom block. The effort blends environmental stewardship with community infrastructure, promising long-term benefits for education and local livelihoods.
Banking Near You
Access to financial services is getting closer to home, with AFC Bank set to bring scheduled agency services to NJ Shop in Neshuro and Rutenga. The move is designed to cut travel time for residents, enabling easier banking, loans, and financial management services.
Aiming for a Centre of Excellence
From healthcare to education and beyond, the Mwenezi council says it is working hard to be the district’s Centre of Excellence. Residents are encouraged to stay engaged as these initiatives progress toward full realization.
