Murray Theological College To Mark A Century Of Training Ministers With Regional Gathering

More than 2,500 people from across Zimbabwe and beyond are expected to attend the centenary celebrations of Reformed Church in Zimbabwe (RCZ) run Murray Theological College’s training of ministers of the Word of God to be held at Morgenster Teachers College on 15 November.

The college’s principal, Rev. Dr. Simbararashe Munamati, said arrangements are in place to host such a large gathering, with guests anticipated from as far as the Netherlands and South Africa.

The event, themed “Celebrating a century of equipping the lamp and light to the world,” will feature an academic procession led by Gutu High School, while Zimuto High school will provide drum majorettes then followed by a church service.

“Dignitaries from around Zimbabwe, including RCZ leadership are expected to attend, alongside international guests from the Netherlands and the Dutch Reformed Church in South Africa,” Dr. Munamati said.

In addition to the formal proceedings, the day will include the unveiling of a plaque commemorating the institution’s 100-year journey.

A book chronicling the college’s rich history since its establishment in 1925 will also be launched, giving attendees a comprehensive understanding of Murray Theological College’s background and mission.

Dr. Munamati noted that since its inception, the college has trained more than 200 ministers for the RCZ and other churches in Zimbabwe.

He stressed that the institution remains a theological college of choice for training not only religious leaders but also chaplains serving the country’s security services, a sign for its broad impact on spiritual and public life.

“The centenary celebrations mark a milestone in the college’s enduring commitment to ministerial formation and community leadership, reflecting decades of contribution to Zimbabwe’s religious and social landscape.” Dr Munamati said.

The college now trains ministers on a four year degree programme and at least 45 students are currently enrolled at the institution.

RCZ is an established religious institution that has been imparting knowledge to the community from grassroots levels to tertiary institutions.

RCZ runs primary schools and several boarding schools like Gutu High, Pamushana High, Alheit Chin’ombe High and Zimuto High to mention a few. IT also runs special needs education schools for children with disabilities like Henry Murray school of the Deaf and Copota school of the blind.

The Church over the years has also chunned out various professionals from its tertiary institutions which Include Morgenster Teachers College, Reformed Church University and several nurse training schools in Masvingo province.
