Masvingo-Owners of new motor vehicles have expressed concern over continued delays in registration of their vehicles due to poor internet network connectivity at the government’s Central Vehicle Registry department saying they risk losing their newly acquired acquisitions following the launch of the ongoing blitz by the Zimbabwe Republic Police and other stakeholders targeting unregistered vehicles.

The blitz is currently impounding unregistered vehicles including newly imported ones whose registration may have been delayed due to poor network connectivity.
“We are worried that our new cars might be impounded by the authorities due to the ongoing blitz, you know it’s taking so many days for a car to get registered and get number plates at the CVR, so it’s difficult for us at this time to explain this to the police doing the blitz, we are just worried we may lose our cars and face challenges in retaining them,” said Admire More who recently acquired a new car.
Another motorist, Memory Maramba, blamed the government department for failing to invest in latest internet software’s to improve connectivity efficiency and curb the delays.
“This shows ineffiency on the part of government, they still use out dated soft wares hence poor connectivity and the delays, they must embrace latest software or use better service providers to beat these unnecessary delays, “she said.
CVR management confirmed the delays in a statement saying it was encountering challenges and apologized to its clients.
“CVR management would like to advise members of the public that we are experiencing glitches with our vehicles registration system to connectivity misalignment. Please bear with us during this which shall be punctuated by prolonged transaction completion time and delayed service delivery,” the statement read.
Efforts to get a comment from CVR for clarifications on how they intend to solve the challenge were fruitless.
But motorists lamented that continued delays were affecting them especially during the blitz period.
“We hope that government will solve the challenge as a matter of urgency because we are in a dire situation the police are pouncing on all unregistered vehicles so to explain that it is due to the delays at CVR we may have challenges with the law enforcers, “said a motorist.
Efforts to get a comment from the police to ascertain if they were aware of the challenges facing CVR and motorists in registrations were not fruit
