Masvingo Round Table 11 Host Rhino Run Walk Ride

Masvingo- The Masvingo Round Table 11 will hold a scintillating Rhino run walk in the expansive wild life sanctuary of Kyle National park now renamed Lake Mtirikwi Recreation Park.

The event is slated for 27 September 2025 adjacent to the mighty Lake Kyle/ Mtirikwi, a few kilometers from Masvingo city and the majestic Great Zimbabwe monuments.

The Fun Rhino Run Walk Ride was launched by local business people, Daryl Edwards and Helen Mitchell in 2017 but was frozen out over the last five years due to the outbreak of the dreaded Covid 19 pandemic.

Craig Greeff, one of the organisers said the fabulous event will revive it.

“Sadly with the advent of COVID the project came to a halt, Masvingo Round table no 11 saw this as an opportunity to reignite the flame of conservation to which we, this was done to help raise awareness for Kyle Recreational Park on key aspects of conservation as well as involving our local and national communities are wanting to run this as our annual project in the hopes that we can grow it to be on our national calendar,” said Craig.

He added that there is no age limit.

“It gives the participants a unique chance to roam the parks on foot and by bicycle taking in the scenes and possibly seeing wild animals along the way. This also promotes our wellbeing and the need to conserve our heritage, as for businesses, it’s a unique way of giving back to conservation whilst also marketing their brands,” he added.

Some Masvingo wild life and Park enthusiasts expressed interest to participate in the prestigious event to get an experience of the park and animals of the jungle.

“This seems to be a wonderful experience, I will certainly take my family and enjoy interaction with wild life in the park. It’s not an opportunity to miss,” said Emily Moyo from Rhodene.

The event will start at 8 am and end at 1pm.

The Fun Rhino Run Walk Ride was launched to help raise awareness for Kyle Recreational Park on key aspects of conservation as well as involving of local and national communities.

Adults are expected to pay 20 USD while kids will fork fork out 10USD for routes from 6km to 13km.

The organizes said proceeds will be channeled to the Rhino conservation and upgrading of their facilities.

Efforts to get a comment from Zimparks were futile.
