Mutare– Daggers are out ahead of this week’s Zanu PF Annual Conference in Mutare, with Masvingo Province leadership reaffirming its support for an extension of President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s term, aligning with last year’s resolution from the party’s annual conference.
The province described the 2030 deadline as a central objective for the party at the forthcoming conference.
According to officials, the primary resolution from the previous year’s conference—referred to as Resolution Number 1—advocates for the President to remain in office until 2030.
The stance according to officials cement the province’s view that continuity by President Mnangagwa at the helm of government business is essential for ongoing policy implementation and national stability.
The renewed expression of support comes amid public discussions within Zanu PF about leadership succession and constitutional considerations.
A faction associated with Vice President Constantino Guveya Chiwenga has publicly urged adherence to the country’s constitutional provisions regarding term limits and leadership transitions, signaling internal party tensions as the Mutare conference approaches.
Masvingo Zanu PF provincial spokesperson, Pepukai Chiwewe confirmed the development.
“We are standing with resolution number 1, everything is now in place accommodation, food, transport and entertainment. We will have a gala on Saturday at the venue” Chiwewe said.
He added that ZANU PF is ready to deliver a flawless annual People’s Conference, running under the theme “Attainment of Vision 2030 through Economic Empowerment and Value Addition.”
The Conference begun with the Politburo meeting held on Tuesday and Central Committee meeting on Wednesday at the party Headquarters in Harare
Thursday will be the traveling and arrival day for all delegates. Verification of delegates will be meticulously done by the Security Department and the Commissariat. The Conference days are Friday and Saturday.
He added that His Excellency the President and First Secretary, Cde Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa, and Her Excellency the First Lady, Dr. A. Mnangagwa, will preside over a tree-planting ceremony
“The Conference presents an opportunity for the party to strengthen its vision and economic policies on its journey to achieve an upper-middle-income society. The conference will break into thematic committees, such as the state of the party, the state of the economy, provincial economies, women’s affairs, and drug abuse awareness, among others” said Chiwewe.
He said that Masvingo province will have 305 delegates.
The Conference will end with the conferment of certificates of attendance to all delegates to the 22nd National People’s Conference by His Excellency, the President and First Secretary, Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa.
Reports say members from the other faction opposing the resolution number one are allegedly planning to cause commotion at the conference, an allegation that was down played by Zanu PF national information Director, Farai Marapira.
Fliers inscribed Chiwenga for 2028 have begun circulating in Harare and on the social media suggesting that the resolution number 1 could face resistance from those backing the former Army General who produced a damning corruption dossier of those bank rolling the 2030 agenda in a politburo meeting recently.
Efforts to get a comment from the opposing faction were fruitless.
