Masvingo-Four Masvingo City councilors who were conferred into the hall of fame through attaining Alderman Status at a ceremony held at Masvingo Civic Centre recently have expressed gratitude over the honour and attributed the achievement to hard work and commitment.
The prestigious ceremony presided over by Mayor Aleck Tabe and Town Clerk Engineer Edward Mukaratirwa saw Daniel Mberikunashe, Richard Musekiwa, Babylon Beta and Against Chiteme being honoured with the status.
Alderman status is conferred on councilors who would have served for 10 or more years in council.
Masvingo Mayor Tabe said the councilors were honoured for their hard work, dedication and long service.

“Today, I had the honour of officiating the conferment of Alderman status to four long-serving councilors of the City of Masvingo. This recognition is a testament to their dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to the advancement of our city.
On behalf of the City of Masvingo, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to our new Aldermen and gratitude for their exemplary service. Together, we continue building a better Masvingo” said Tabe.
Ward 8 Councilor, Alderman Richard Musekiwa said he is deeply honoured to accept this esteemed title of Alderman, conferred upon him in recognition of his dedication and service to the City of Masvingo.
He also extended sincere gratitude to the residents of Masvingo, particularly those of Ward 8, for entrusting him with the responsibility of representing them as their Councilor.
“I also wish to acknowledge the unwavering support of my family, who have been instrumental in my ability to serve the community. Their understanding and encouragement have been invaluable, and I am grateful for their presence in my life. To my colleagues, fellow Councilors, Management, and Staff, I express my appreciation for the collaborative spirit and teamwork that has defined our work together since my election in 2013. I look forward to continued partnership in driving the city’s progress.
I reaffirm my commitment to serving the City of Masvingo with integrity, diligence, and passion, and I pledge to contribute meaningfully to the realization of the city’s vision and goals.” said Musekiwa.
Deputy Mayor Alderman Daniel Mberikunashe said he is grateful to the residents of Ward 5 for believing in his leadership for all the years he has been in council.
“I want to thank the residents of Ward 5 who gave me the mandate to lead for 3 terms as their Councilor. I also thank my family for standing by me throughout this journey” said Mberikunashe.
Alderman Beta and Chiteme also expressed appreciation over the attainment of the coveted title and paid tribute to residents and local authority management for the support rendered during their time at the town house. The two are no longer sitting councilors after their terms ended.
