Masvingo-The Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League (PSERSL) has readmitted FC Wangu Mazodze who had failed to pay affiliation fees in time and were omitted from fixtures.
Close sources allege that the team faces financial challenges and expected to be bailed by Masvingo City Council but the bid failed after some councilors blocked a resolution to pay affiliation fees for two local clubs including FC Wangu Mazodze arguing that they were not community teams.
FC Mazodze is bank rolled by United States of America based Dr Richard Wangu Mazodze a flamboyant wealthy individual from Masvingo south near Renco Mine, hence the city fathers and mothers declined the justification that it was a community team.
The ZIFA Eastern region league’s administrator Fungai Munyoro Chingaira, said the team has been reinstated into the league fixtures.
“Clubs are therefore advised that FC Wangu Mazodze will take the position where a bye had previously been indicated in the released fixture. As a result, no new fixture list will be issued, and the existing schedule remains unchanged except for the replacement of the bye with FC Wangu Mazodze.” said Chingaira.
FC Wangu Mazodze spokesperson Courage Kandira said the team is officially back in the league and has intensified its preparations.
“We are pleased that we are back and l know our supporters are excited. They were worried when the news leaked out that we were out. Because we are back, our eyes are set on this coming season and not the past. After the mayor’s cup and the abandonment of the match, the key principals agreed that they were going to affiliate for both tournaments and we banked on that promise and of course that did not happen.”
Kandira further said the team is back stronger and raring to go.
“Thank God our sponsor was ready and quick to avail the funds and we are back stronger and powerful. Expect fireworks on our encounter with Lions” added Kandira.
The return brings back huge anticipations for fired up heavily contested local derbies between the team and bitter rivals all time ancient city giants, Masvingo United FC, Una Una.
