BIKITA – Duma Primary school, Bikita district’s rising academic powerhouse has launched 5 more books bringing the number to ten this year.

The books published by Essential Books Publishing Company, came out courtesy of Duma Budding Writers Club which is run by Shepherd Chidima, Jacqueline Turugare and Gertrude Musakari who are all teachers at the school.

The books were written by grade 5 and 6 students, Blessing Muzondireva, Rigel Chabata, Moreblessing Fiona Madhura and Tinovimbanashe Zivanomoyo who are between the ages of 9 and 11.

Of all the authors, 9 years old grade 5 student, Fiona Moreblessing Madhura is outstanding as she penned 2 books, No to Pollution and you never know your destiny.

She told The Center News that her  wish is to see one of her books helping fellow learners to stop pollution while the other teach young girls to be resilient and have the courage to stand up to life’s challenges.

“I hope that one of my books which sensitise about the dangers of pollution and also  teach my fellow learners to keep the environment safe and clean, the other book is about resilience as it encourages the girl child to stand up against humiliation and challenges,” , said Madhura

Great Zimbabwe University lecturer in the School of Business Sciences, Watson Munyanyi, who was the guest speaker at the book launch said the project to equip young leaners with book writing skill is a noble idea.

“It’s essential to catch the children young, giving them life skills and I implore authorities to support the initiative,” said Munyanyi.

Duma budding writers club chairperson, Chidima said the club is growing big and many students are developing a penchant to become writers.

He called upon the community and other surrounding schools to support the project by buying the books.

“We are glad that the writers club at our school is gaining momentum. The school head Mr. Thomas Chabata is very supportive and we wish the community will also support us during book launches so as to inspire the authors”, said Chidima.

Duma primary is one of the few schools in the province that is taking up such critical initiative to develop writing enthusiasts from tender ages.
