Masvingo-Minister of State and Devolution for Masvingo, Ezra Chadzamira has pleaded passionately to the private sector and Civil Society to support the 2030 agenda which seeks to extend the presidential term limit by a further 2 years to 2030.

Hiding behind the government vision 2030 policy Chadzamira attempted to hood wink stakeholders at a meeting held at the Civic Centre hall on 30 October.

Critics say the minister’s stance was a ploy to hoodwink civil society to embrace the Zanu PF party resolution of keeping President Emerson Mnangagwa in power through the amendment of the constitution.

The meeting was held inconjuction with Masvingo City Council to discuss areas of services delivery provision and implementation of devolution projects.

Chadzamira said the 2030 agenda belongs to every Zimbabwean.

“Hapana asingadi 2030 ndeye munhu wese  I was  happy to see opposition supporting it in Parliament,  didn’t you see them singing and dancing to the song  2030 ndeya ED. Even councilors here want to rule until 2030 so this is for everyone not the President alone,” said Chadzamira

His sentiment were applauded by some quarters of the opposition councilors who look set to benefit from the agenda as 2028 elections could be shelved.

He said civil society and the private sector have a duty to bridge the gap between government and the community in development projects and should embrace the 2030 agenda.

Chadzamira said the vision 2030 agenda came as a realization that President Mnangagwa has improved the economy of the country and changed the lives of ordinary people.

“When the President came we had a  no currency, now we have a stable local currency, we did not have food now we have enough, we had electricity problems now load shedding has been reduced we are a moving forward and with devolution we now have funds to implement projects hence he deserves to continue the good works,” he said.

In his remarks, Masvingo Mayor Aleck Tabe said the meeting was critical in improving service delivery provision and  has faith that the city will indeed benefit form government’s NDS programs.

“we need to embrace the launch of the NDS1 and the coming of NDS2 as we thrive as City to provide best service delivery to our residents , which speaks to timeous collection of solid waste, road network systems, portable water supply on an average of 9 hrs a day, public  lighting , storm water drainage water ways, avoidable healthy facilities at our local clinics etc. l really commend the support we are receiving from our Minister of state of provincial affairs and devotion Hon E R Chadzamira” Tabe said.

The move to amend the constitution to allow the extension of President Mnangagwa has met resistance from dissenting voices.

Last week a press conference by opposition leaders was disrupted after the venue at Dr Ibbo Mandza’s Sapes Trust was allegedly petrol bombed the night before.

Opposition leaders, Tendai Biti Job Sikhala and Jacob Ngaribvume vowed to fight the mutilation of the constitution by the ruling party to extend the presidential limit.

Respected constitutional expert and opposition leader, Lovemore Madhuku also condemned the extension of the presidential term and urged Zimbabwean to resists any attempt to disfigure the constitution.
