Bikita- A Bikita Fashu High School Teacher, Morris Tafadzwa Chiturumani, who is facing allegations of sexually abusing female students including his own daughter was on Friday suspended following investigations by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MOPSE) that thronged the school.
The investigations were called by the community and parents represented by the School Development Committee (SDC) leaders who were interviewed together with some students who were sexually abused.
Media reports by The Centre News on the abuses also pressured MOPSE provincial leaders to take action.
A close source who attended the meeting said SDC, parents and students demanded that Chiturumani be transferred from the school for safety reasons.
BIKITA Fashu SDC Chairman, Chasara Chimombe, confirmed the investigation meetings took place.
“Yes the investigations were done by a high powered delegation from the provincial education headquarters on Friday. As the community and leaders of the SDC we demanded that teacher leave our school and go somewhere. He must be transferred. AS I speak now parents and female students are scared that more girls may fall victims if he continue working at the school,” said Chimombe.
Provincial Education Director, Shylet Mhike also confirmed that the investigations were carried out last week.
“Yes the meeting were done last week but I have not yet received the report, also I am not sure whether the investigation team where from Masvingo or Bikita but I will have to find out and come back to you, she said.
But Chimombe maintained that the team was from Masvingo basing from the introductions made before the interviews commenced.
The community and some staff at the school are however uncomfortable with the Teacher who is currently residing at his school house conducting private lesson there, despite the fact that the suspension ordered him not to stay at the school house or access school premise.
The investigations were done and stakeholder are eagerly waiting for the outcome of MOPSE investigations.
It is alleged that the daughter allegedly abused cannot be named for the purpose to protect her identity and has since moved out of father house at the school together with her brother.
They now stay mother who teaches at a nearby school and also claim physical abuse by her husband.
Her mother reported the sexual abuse of her daughter at Bikita police last year and the natter was tried at Masvingo magistrate court and acquitted the father.
The Bikita community and parents were not satisfied with the court ruling and urged the wife to find organizations that can assist her to appeal at the higher courts.
Efforts to get a comment from Chiturumani were fruitless as his mobile was not reachable.
