Masvingo celebrates women’s month

By Sheila Chisirimunhu

The month of March has been set aside as Women’s Month. As we commemorate and celebrate this important period under the theme “Give Opportunity, Gain Equality: Advancing Women’s Economic Justice,” we are reminded of the urgent need for meaningful change.

As women, we stand at a crossroads. This theme must not remain just a slogan, but serve as a clarion call to action.

Women are the backbone of our communities. We work tirelessly, we lead with resilience, and we continue to innovate despite the challenges we face. However, persistent barriers remain — including unequal access to resources, discriminatory laws, and societal norms that continue to limit our full participation and potential.

A clear example is seen in the ongoing CAB 3 consultative meetings, where venues are often set in remote areas beyond the reach of many women. This effectively excludes women from participating, depriving them of their right to contribute and silencing their voices in critical national processes.

If we are truly committed to equality, then inclusion must be intentional and practical.

Give us equal opportunities. Hear our voices. Include us in shaping our future.
