Masvingo-City of Masvingo, Mayor, Aleck Tabe has expressed profound gratitude to Germans who have supported council’s development initiatives for over four decades.
Addressing delegates at a special occasion to celebrate the twinning arrangement between the City of Masvingo and Kernen city through the Germany-Zimbabwe Society, Tabe said the visit by the German delegation is a clear testimony to the enduring friendship and cooperation that bind the two cities and countries.

Tabe said over the years, this partnership has flourished through mutual respect, solidarity, and a shared commitment to sustainable development and improved service delivery.
He added that the twinning relationship ushered opportunities for social cultural exchanges that have benefitted the city.
“ We are sincerely grateful for the Kernen-Masvingo Association’s assistance in resource mobilisation for the construction of Runyararo Clinic, expansion of Alpha Cottages Orphanage, expansion of Mucheke Old People’s Home, Microfinances for New Business Development Community Projects extended through Zambuko, state of the art fully equipped ambulances, Medical equipment for Council Clinics, Morgenster hospital and Masvingo General Hospital, refuse compactors, 5KV solar system for Runyararo Clinic, CT scan, 5000 liters water tank for Runyararo Clinic, Oxygen Concentrator during COVID 19, Autoclave machine for Mucheke clinic, various assistance to Bondolfi and Ratidzo Institutions, Construction of Alfred Walter Hostel, and other developmental initiatives that have significantly enhanced service delivery.” said Tabe.
The Mayor added that these gestures have not only strengthened institutions but have also inspired council to give back to the own community.
“City of Masvingo has taken a leaf from the generosity and compassion demonstrated by our friends in Kernen Germany and we have since established the City of Masvingo Scholarship Grant. To date, the programme has 15 beneficiaries, and we are proud to share that two medical doctors are among those who have benefited from this life-changing initiative. This is a testament to the multiplier effect of partnership when goodwill is shared, it empowers generations” added Tabe.
Tabe also informed guests that the City of Masvingo will be hosting the upcoming Sanganai World Tourism Expo while extending a special invitation to Kernen firms and business representatives to come and exhibit at this prestigious event.
“The Expo presents a valuable platform not only to showcase products and services but also to explore potential investment opportunities and strengthen economic ties between our two cities. During your stay, I trust that you will experience the warmth of our people and the rich heritage that defines Masvingo. We are proud custodians of the majestic Great Zimbabwe, located just 30 kilometers from our city centre. Its resilience and architectural brilliance symbolise endurance, unity, and vision thus qualities that also define our partnership. May its indestructibility inspire us to craft innovative and sustainable strategies that will help our cities thrive in this ever-changing global environment” said Tabe.
Tabe reaffirmed council’s commitment to deepening cooperation, strengthening people-to-people ties, and expanding opportunities for cultural exchange, investment, and shared learning through fruitful engagements and productive discussions.
