Firebrand Opposition Political Activist Archieford Mudzengi Laid To Rest

Nemamwa- Bulging Masvingo based opposition political activists and former student leader, Archieford Mudzengi who died on Sunday evening at a private hospital in Harare was laid to rest at Nemamwa Cemetery on December 31.

Mudzengi a candid and fearless youth leader in the main opposition movement started as a student activist in during the late President Robert Mugabe era under Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) rising through the ranks to become secretary of legal affairs at one point was arrested, prosecuted and detained several times while fronting the democratization revolution in the country.

Youthful political activist Ostallos Siziba who paid his last respect to his   fellow young leader described him as a dedicated cadre to the democratic struggle of Zimbabwe.

“We have lost a great fighter. Mudzengi dedicated his life to the cause, right to the very end.  He fought the good fight, kept the faith, and finished his race. Rest well, brother” said Siziba.

Amalgamated Rural Teachers Association (ARTUZ) also send in their condolences.

“The Union mourns the death of a friend of ARTUZ, Cde Archieford Mudzengi who passed on at Arundel hospital in Harare. Mudzengi was a solid supporter of the Union’s actions and offered his organising expert support to our struggle. May His Soul Rest in Peace. Our deepest condolences to his family and colleagues” said ARTUZ.

Another opposition politician Pashor Sibanda said Mudzengi remained steadfast against repression and injustice.

“We received the painful news of the passing of Cde Archieford Mtizwa Mudzengi, a fearless cadre who stood firm on the frontlines against repression and injustice in the fight for a prosperous Zimbabwe. His courage never wavered, his conviction never bent. Zimbabwe has lost a true patriot and an uncompromising fighter for the people. Rest in Power, Papa Archie” said Sibanda.

Former Masvingo Mayor, Hubert Fidze said the loss is unbelievable.

“So sad to hear you just passed on Archie. It’s unbelievable and neither can it be accommodated yet it’s real. You fought a good fight my Bro. You stood still and steel for the freedom of the people. Go well soldier! Hopefully, your goal shall be fulfilled. R.I.P” said Fidze.

Mourners described Archie as one of their own who served the community with purpose and was a known staunch supporter of the local PSERSL division one power house Masvingo United Football Club.

“Archilo was part of us in the ghetto at Una Una matches and we walked the journey together in politics. He was a humble and principled man. The community has lost a giant” said one mourner.

Mudzengi is survived by his wife Carole and two children. The burial was attended by various members of the opposition movement and civil society like Masvingo Urban Member of Parliament, Martin Mureri, Masvingo Mayor, Aleck Tabe, Masvingo United Residents and Rate Payers Alliance Chairman, Thomas Mbetu, Masvingo Deputy Mayor, Daniel Mberikunashe among others.
