Masvingo- City of Masvingo has demonstrated unprecedented commitment to service delivery and health services through the acquisition of state-of-the-art heavy-duty and utility vehicles, as well as the commissioning of the Runyararo Clinic maternity ward.

Addressing guests at the Ceremony City of Masvingo Mayor, Aleck Tabe, said Council has acquired essential assets that will fundamentally transform its local operations.

He said that the newly acquired fleet of heavy earthmoving yellow machinery and service vehicles is set to improve service delivery in the ancient city.

The strategic procurement represents a total capital injection of $1,247,120.52 USD into civic operational capacity.

“ This substantial investment is structured as follows: Heavy Engineering Component: Our newly acquired “yellow machines” comprising an Excavator, Bulldozer, Grader, and Roller Compactor represent an investment value of $1,134,120.52 USD. The operational fleet utility consists of two robust Toyota Hilux GD6 Single Cab vehicles acquired at a total cost of $76,000.00 USD, and the support component consists of a high-capacity tractor valued at $37,000.00,” said Tabe.

The acquisition of modern machinery by Council is part of its broader vision and unyielding commitment to investing in modern, efficient machinery.

“Our primary objective is clear: to drastically improve both the quality and execution speed of Council service delivery. Each asset has been strategically selected to fulfil critical roles within our engineering plans,

The heavy yellow machines will immediately play a vital role in our ongoing road construction, structural rehabilitation of existing roads, implementation of comprehensive stormwater drainage works, and localized gravel extraction,” added Tabe.

The new equipment is also expected to boost environmental management at the Cambria dumpsite landfill project.

Guests of Honour Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Masvingo Province, Honourable Ezra Ruvai Chadzamira, was also praised for the support he offered in ensuring that Council has enough resources to procure the new equipment and his influential role in the construction of Runyararo Maternity Ward, which he officially commissioned at the same ceremony.

Tabe acknowledged Chadzamira for his strategic vision and alignment, which brought the Runyararo Clinic maternity ward project to fruition.

Minister Chadzamira led in the official opening of the ward, cutting the ribbon, and a plaque was officially placed, marking a great milestone towards maternal health services delivery.

“I was delighted to officially open the 20-bed Runyararo Maternity Unit, a transformative investment in maternal and child healthcare. The facility will greatly improve access to quality maternity services for residents of Runyararo, Victoria Range and surrounding suburbs, who previously had to travel long distances to Northwest and Mucheke clinics. By bringing these critical services closer to the community, the maternity unit will help reduce the incidence of unsafe home deliveries, improve maternal and neonatal health outcomes, and provide expectant mothers with timely, quality healthcare. I highly commend the City of Masvingo for this visionary initiative,” he said.

He added that a healthy nation is the foundation of a prosperous society, and investments in modern infrastructure and healthcare are central to the attainment of Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).

“The completion of the Runyararo Maternity Unit is a direct response to the needs of the community and reflects the successful implementation of the performance contracts of the Mayor and Town Clerk, demonstrating accountable, responsive and results-oriented local governance,” Chadzamira said.
