Masvingo based comedians have put the Province on the map with their sterling skits which have gained widespread appreciation and recognition on social media.
Known for producing talent and intellect Masvingo has produced various comedians endowed with talent the likes of Sabhuku Vharazipi, Chairman, Mbuya Mai John, Mbuya VaPiyasoni, Brother Puro, Bee Wezhira, Chibhatani, Baba Hazvi and many others.
With the advent of new media social media platforms they have proved to be a vital cog to carry forward the works of Masvingo comedians to the nation at large and beyond borders.
Locally produced skits rich in local Karanga dialect which leave many in awe and stitches have hit social media by storm.
Their works have widely showcased a plethora of social issues, developmental projects, human rights issues as well as promoting several Zimbabwean business brands.
David “Sabhuku Varazipi” Mubaiwa said they have built a large following on social media which has taken their works nationwide.
“We are very much visible on social media and have gained many followers but our audiences can enjoy more of our works if they physically attend our events in various communities around the country” said Mubaiwa.
Promise Mudavanhu aka “Brother Puro” said skits are a way of conveying social mesages to the nation and abroad.
“Our skits are widely viewed across the nation and abroad,we use them to send out messages in a manner that is entertaining. We have a lot of engagements and come in as a therapy. I am now on the map and am now also a popular MC around the country. We speak chiWezhira and people now know that Masvingo is talented we do our skits using deep Karanga which haa placed our province on the map. Many people now love the Karanga dialect because of us.” said Mudavanhu.
We cld not get a comment from Mbuya vaPiyasoni whose real name is Kudzai Chengedza as she was in meeting.
